Great experience of study abroad in ONU

Image
As a final blog, I will write about my ONU life over the past year. Sadly, as an exchange student, I have to go back to Japan in a few weeks and I will never study in ONU anymore. Everything was new, attractive and exciting to me! First of all, I had a lot of difficulties in classes. I was struggling basically with English. You cannot follow the class if you do not catch what professor says. It sometimes made me frustrated and feel less confident in my English skills. In addition to this, I had a lot of group work or discussion. The English that my classmates spoke was faster and more casual than that of professor. So, I got confused countless times. However, I never gave up. I tried to understand what people said and if I had any problems or issues, I asked them. Once I asked them my difficulty, every one explained me again even by using different words. Thanks to the kindness and help of a lot of people, I think I have improved my English over what it was a year ago. I am s...

Chapter 14

Speaking of influencers, many people would imagine people who have a lot of followers on their social media account. After reading the textbook, however, the notion is wider than I thought. The text book says that an influencer is someone who carries influence over others. They could be anybody such as parents, siblings, professors and friends. What I had thought was social media influencer. There are some levels of social media influencers from nano to mega. My misunderstanding was that this level is determined by the number of followers. In fact, however, Reach will make the difference. Reach means number of people that an influencer can deliver a message to. Other than reach, some more factors will make a good influencer such as credibility, authenticity, and activity and engagement. None of this will feel like a special or obvious idea by any means. Once you become a social media influencer, you can expand the choices of what you want to do. That enables you to promote ...

Multicultural fair (cont.)

Image
We had a great time to have a multicultural fair on April 22 nd . As I wrote in the previous blog, we, Japanese students made ‘karaage’ and ‘yakisoba’, and it took about 4 hours to complete cooking! People who came to the multicultural fair got 3 tickets and they were able to use those tickets. When we counted the tickets after the fair, there were 61 tickets. It means 61 people visited our table and tried to eat Japanese food. I am so glad that lots of people tried different culture, and also I appreciated to come. I was really impressed because some people talked to me in Japanese. I just figure out so much Japanese culture already exists in the U.S. which is not only food, but also some culture. Honestly, I do not even know much about Japanese culture especially traditional music, but at the multicultural fair, somebody played Japanese traditional instrument called koto. I felt like I learned Japanese culture by people from other countries. I also enjoyed another culture as ...

Chapter 13

After reading the textbook, I felt the notion of campaign is wider than advertising, and more comprehensive. That is why it is hard to implement campaign appropriately. I learned there are some processes to realize it. One of the processes is called AIDA, which indicates Attention, Interest, Desire and Action. It is important how you would prepare before taking action. By doing this, you can smaller the risk of failure and make the things efficiently. There are so many types of marketing today. Some marketing would be direct ones such as mail, visiting or receipt. On the other hand, others would be indirect like social media marketing including ads in apps, online order services and so on. You will need to more focus on social media marketing because it is the era of technology and such marketing will cost less than physical one. I think imitating some companies’ marketing will be good idea. However, you also need uniqueness. By differentiating from other companies, you may b...

The Social Dilemma

Image
After watching a movie The Social Dilemma, I felt how important to learn about how to use social media. Although the progress of technology has made our lives more useful and convenient, there still be some risks and concerns about social media. For example, as I learned in the movie, fake news will spread six times more than the truth. If you retweet the fake news, you are complicit in spreading it. You have to be more careful about the use of retweeting for example, because it is so easy to retweet it. To avoid being such a perpetrator, you have to find the same topics of articles from different sites. You will need a lot of practice to get a media literacy. In terms of communication, the chance to communicate online has been increasing. I think this is a good trend because more communication allows you to engage with people. However, I believe the in-person communication is much more important than online. By talking face to face, you can share the same moment in the same spac...

Chapter 11

Speaking of social media which provide you with shot videos, most people would imagine TikTok. I think the popularity of TikTok enabled another social media to introduce short videos. However, TikTok is still one of the most popular media for short videos all over the world. I do not watch TikTok recently, but I used to get into TikTok when I was a high school student. It is a good tool because they showed me videos based on my preference. Also, I barely get bored of watching videos because every video is short. Another thing that I like about TikTok is we can know the trends. It can be music, fashion, worldwide and so on. Because lots of celebrities use TikTok, they have a lot of power for trends as influencers. After reading the textbook, I got surprised the distribution of TikTok users in the United States. I thought most of the user were teenagers, and young adults could be 2nd. In reality, however, user age groups were scattered. We have over 20 percent of distributors f...

Image
I will introduce about ‘Multi-cultural Fair’. Does anybody want to experience different culture or new experience on campus? We have a multi-cultural fair at 5pm (to 8pm) on April 22 nd at king horn. I promise that it would be a great time to experience new culture. The biggest thing is every amazing food is free and you do not have to travel to another country. Why am I introducing the multi-cultural fair? That is because I am going to make a Japanese food which is ‘karaage’ and ‘yakisoba’! I am so excited to promote my roots for everybody. I will explain what ‘karaage’ and ‘Yakisoba’ are. Karaage is a kind of fried chicken, but it is tasted with soy source, Japanese sweet rice wine, ginger, and garlic. Before frying chicken, we use starch which makes crunchy texture. Please trust me, it is a much better than wow’s chicken tender even if it is freshly fried. Yakisoba is stair fried noodles with pork or seafood, vegetables and a sweet and salty sauce. Both Japanese cuisines ar...
