The Social Dilemma
After watching a movie The Social Dilemma, I felt how important to learn about how to use social media.
Although the progress of technology has made our lives
more useful and convenient, there still be some risks and concerns about social
media. For example, as I learned in the movie, fake news will spread six times
more than the truth. If you retweet the fake news, you are complicit in
spreading it. You have to be more careful about the use of retweeting for
example, because it is so easy to retweet it. To avoid being such a perpetrator,
you have to find the same topics of articles from different sites. You will
need a lot of practice to get a media literacy.
In terms of communication, the chance to communicate
online has been increasing. I think this is a good trend because more
communication allows you to engage with people. However, I believe the
in-person communication is much more important than online. By talking face to
face, you can share the same moment in the same space. You can also guess the
feeling of the people whom you are talking with.
Dependent too much on social media could be bad. You
might have a habit that comparing to people all the time by checking your
friends’ post. If you get damaged mentally and consequently have depression or
melancholy, it is going to be hard to get overcome. Personally, in fact, I feel
I compare myself to others more often than before probably because of the
social media. So, I have to rethink this habit.
I was surprised that the suicide rate has risen
incredibly due to the social media. Indeed, I often see the harmful comments on
Instagram, twitter or whatever. They have to know they do the wrong thing as a
human. Lows should be revised and stricter for such a silly behavior.
I sometimes had a difficulty understanding the
content. So I would like to try to watch again by myself.
