Great experience of study abroad in ONU
As a final blog, I will write about my ONU life over the past year. Sadly, as an exchange student, I have to go back to Japan in a few weeks and I will never study in ONU anymore.
Everything was new, attractive and exciting to me!
First of all, I had a lot of difficulties in classes.
I was struggling basically with English. You cannot follow the class if you do
not catch what professor says. It sometimes made me frustrated and feel less confident
in my English skills. In addition to this, I had a lot of group work or
discussion. The English that my classmates spoke was faster and more casual than
that of professor. So, I got confused countless times. However, I never gave
up. I tried to understand what people said and if I had any problems or issues,
I asked them. Once I asked them my difficulty, every one explained me again even
by using different words. Thanks to the kindness and help of a lot of people, I
think I have improved my English over what it was a year ago. I am so glad
about this because one of the reasons to study abroad was because I wanted to
be a good English speaker.
In terms of entertainment, I experienced a lot even
inside of Ada! I went to king horn a lot, mainly for workout, sometimes
swimming. Because I went to the gym so frequently such as five times a week on
average, I made a lot of friends there. After entering to the gym and said “what’s
up” to my friends, with shaking hands with them, which encouraged me to have
more motivation for the workout. When I succeed in my personal record that I left
the heaviest weight, they clap their hands to their joy as if they succeeded,
not me. That is why I really miss those friends. Other than the activities in
king horn, I enjoyed playing so many sports such as tennis, soccer, basketball,
frisbee and so on.
Let’s talk about food. Although I have missed rice,
which is our major meal for Japanese people, I have got into “American food”. I
go to wow almost every day and eat chicken tenders. Other than that, I also like
pizza in dining hall. Totally I have enjoyed the meal in ONU.
By having had communications with some other
international students, I was able to learn a lot of things about outside of
Japan in addition to the U.S culture. I had chances to try their typical food,
or speak their language. Because we spent a lot of time together, we were able
to build a great relationship. I will invite them to Japan and I am also willing
to visit their countries.
Finally, I am so grateful for people engaged in my wonderful
ONU life and I would like to say thank you to them for making my life amazing!!
I never forget this experience and hopefully this will help me make future career!

ReplyDeleteKalle Järvinen: Wonderful to read that you Kanamu have enjoyed your time in Ada. There will be empty space to fil in atmosphere of Ada when there is not strong, funny Japanese guy around. Next destination is Finland, bro!
