Until now, for me, Instagram was just a tool to share my memories with my friends. After reading the textbook, however, I learned a new aspect of Instagram as a business. I was surprised that 90% of Instagram users follow a business. On second thought, I figured I was one of that 90% because I follow my favorite business brands such as Nike and Apple. In addition to that, I sometimes see the attractive ads on Instagram. I actually have not bought anything before, but I think I want to try some day.

Another thing what I feel Instagram is a good social media is that there is a reel. Recently, I tend to spend a lot of time on Instagram reel. It is really nice because you may not get tired of shorter videos mostly less than one minute, and the videos displayed for you are based on your preferences. Now there are some social media which provide you with shorter video such as TikTok and YouTube. Nevertheless, I tend to be into Instagram more because I often see the Instagram stories, and after that, I end up watching reels. I sometimes waste my time by watching these kinds of videos, so I have to reflect my habit and still try to enjoy Instagram.

    Great blog! It has been interesting to learn all of the different uses Instagram can provide and how many different ways there are to take in content on just one platform.

Chapter 11

  Speaking of social media which provide you with shot videos, most people would imagine TikTok. I think the popularity of TikTok enabled another social media to introduce short videos. However, TikTok is still one of the most popular media for short videos all over the world. I do not watch TikTok recently, but I used to get into TikTok when I was a high school student. It is a good tool because they showed me videos based on my preference. Also, I barely get bored of watching videos because every video is short. Another thing that I like about TikTok is we can know the trends. It can be music, fashion, worldwide and so on. Chapter1 of the textbook

I have my doubts about the statement that 67% of the world’s population uses mobile devices. I felt doubtful because this percentage was very high. There are a lot of children and older people all over the world. Basically, I think too young people and too old people tend not to use their phone. In addition to this, there are many poor people including those who live below the poverty line. Given these two things, I would like to say that the actual percentage should be lower than the statement in the textbook. That statement might exclude such kinds of people though. By the way, I looked at the screen time of my smartphone. I spent 6 hours for the use of phone on daily average last week. While the average worldwide is 2 hours and 29 min, mine was 3 hours 5 min per day. I often tend to spend more time on social media such as Instagram, Twitter, TikTok and so on.
