Chapter 8

I am not a Pinterest user and I have used it only a few times. That is why everything from this chapter was new to me and I learned a lot. First of all, I was very surprised at the distribution of users worldwide by gender. 76.7 percent of the users are female! I thought the portion of men and women was almost same because I treated Pinterest as one of the most famous social media platforms in the U.S. Because there are a lot of users especially in the U.S, you can find the information basically whatever you want. One of my friends advised me to use Pinterest to find good image. Based on that advice, I have tried to search a best hairstyle. Thanks to the great photo of Pinterest, I was able to change my hair style a lot in Las Vegas during the spring break. For that reason, now I like Pinterest. In terms of business tactics, I found nothing special compared to other social media. You had better to choose hashtags, make the description briefly and select good pictures for po...

Social Media Marketing Workshop

Image
First of all, I would like to say thank you to Dr. Aggie. Thank you for letting me join the wonderful workshop. It was a great opportunity to learn from actual experts of social media. To be honest, at first, I participated in that event simply because it was mandatory to join. I was like “I don’t want to be stuck such a long time”. However, my mind completely changed after the workshop. How interesting it was! Now I will write what I learned below. I joined a lecture of Podcast at a session block 1. What is the number 1 skill required for a successful Podcast? The answer is that having a passion for the topic and keeping posting. 90 percent of Podcasters quit before episode 3. Nothing happens if you quit recording and posting. Something good might happen if you try to take action. This goes for everything, not just Podcast. The speaker’s word made me motivated to moving into action. Another lecture that I liked was “How to use a small budget to make a big impact”. As we le...

Chapter7

I like snapchat. Before coming to the US, I only had heard the word snapchat, and nobody around me used that app in Japan. On the other hand, however, snapchat is the most common way to communicate with my friends now here in the US. One of the unique characteristics of snapchat is that messages disappear in 24 hours. I was confused and frustrated such kind of system at first because something important can be deleted automatically. But now I’ve got used to that and rather like it because we can save the storage and we can save the chat forever if needed. In terms of marketing, I feel snapchat is really sensitive to the current trends. For example, during the soccer world cup, there were a lot of face filters. In addition to this, the ads of the snapchat is funny. I think personally there’s not so much ads in snapchat, they are attractive and I like it. I would like to share this app with a lot of people after going back to Japan.

Spring Break1

Image
Today I would like to share the wonderful experiences of spring break with you. I was so excited to go to west coast as a trip because I had never been there. We made an international trip, which means I had a trip with my friends from Finland, Spain and Japan. First, we went to Los Angeles. Unfortunately, it was raining at first day but, we had a lot of places to visit and lot of things to do. For instance, Santa Monica, Beverly Hills, Walk of Fame and so on. I really liked Beverly Hills because every house was incredibly huge, clean and unique! The walking in Beverly Hills was like a dream and I wish I would live there in the future. Then, we moved to San Francisco by driving! One of my friends didn’t take the closest way because he hoped to drive along the coast! Eventually, it took about 7 hours, but I was so happy because I was able to see wonderful views which I had never experienced! Since I didn’t have an international driver license, I couldn’t drive and that made me...

Chapter 6

I often use twitter especially for collecting information. Not to keep up with the trend and also because I am interested in what is happening in the world, I try to see “trend” on twitter. The most favorite thing of twitter is the speed of information. A bunch of users enable to do that. If there is an important or interesting news, people cannot tend to stop replying, retweeting or quoting the tweet. And then, the news would spread in an instant. I think this feature could be both good and bad. If the information is true and people should know about it, it would be nice. On the other hand, however, there is a threat that fake news would spread. If this happens and people take it seriously, it could be defamatory to the person who had been written a wrong thing. Thus, to avoid this, you have to be careful about the use of social media because you might violate the rights of others against your will. In terms of business, twitter is a good tool to promote. We can post not only ...

Difference Between University in Japan and ONU

Image
I will state the difference between my own university in Japan and ONU only based on my feeling and experience. First of all, the scale of the university is completely different. While ONU has around 3,000 students in total, there are about 30,000 in my school in Japan. The good thing of smaller university is that the number of people per each class is less. It enables you to have more chance to speak out and to contribute to the discussion. These are the good opportunities to encourage the skills that we need even in the future. You can have a lot of experience before having a job and working with others. This is one of the reasons I chose ONU as the place to study abroad. Secondly, I feel people here are more diligent and try to study compared to university students in Japan. Of course, there are a lot of people who study hard.   However, not everyone is passionate about studying. It often seems that skipping morning class due to staying up late last night. For some cl...
